A State of the Art Shared Learning Experience

I found the course excellent and very informative. I loved the way all of the slides and handouts were explained.I feel like I have gained many new skills and feel much more equipped when dealing with these areas.

This short course was easy to follow, with content clearly delivered. The strategies recommended for managing mental health and avoiding burn-out were straightforward and for me, it was clear how they could be used in real life without having to go to great effort to find time or space or a new way of doing things. Well worth the time I spent watching the lectures.

The title of this course catch my eye as I am struggling with stress at work at the minute, I found the lessons on Managing Conflict and Problem Solving in the Workplace most applicable and I will put what I have learned into practice. I like how you can come back to each lesson when you need to. I found it easy to follow and helpful for me.

I have one child, in 3rd class, who would definitely benefit from understanding cliques...in fact, she would benefit from the whole friendship lesson. Thinking in advance will take some time to learn. I love the alternative solutions because it certainly cultivates independence and allows the child to be part of the solution through their choice.

As teachers we tell students to ask for help with their academic work but I think it is very important to encourage them to ask for help with emotional struggles too which was highlighted in this lesson. I feel it's important to teach children that it's Ok and normal/healthy to feel angry sometimes. We tend to focus on trying to suppress anger rather than teaching how to cope with and express it.

Because I find that anger is the most difficult emotion to learn to deal with and control. Growing up I learned to swallow my anger, which makes you explosive after a while, an unwanted effect. It is important that children learn early on that anger is a feeling that is ok to have, that can be expressed safely and effectively. It is necessary to clear the air before moving on. It is important as a parent to provide a safe space for the child where they can work through their anger with parental support available to them.

Students were surprised to think that there were aspects of healthy anger and that it was ok to get frustrated from time to time however this should only be for short times it is when we are angry for the majority of the time it poses a problem.When completing the resources the students contemplated on times when they didn't realise they were angry when they were and they were able to reflect on what led to that situation. Strategies were looked at on how to cope with this emotion.The Teacher resources break down the main points in a manageable way and the resources for the students are easy to interpret.
